Day 8: Julian Zero Day!

Just a short update about what a zero day looks like on trail!

Woke up, still early, but was grateful to be able to stay horizontal for a few hours, drinking coffee out of a real mug and working on the blog. Then did yoga, ate some food, and then some more food, really just getting as many fresh calories as I could.

After completing a few last minute tasks, including picking up a box from the post office with some snacks I had sent to myself from LA, Claire and I headed to the coffee shop in town to chill.

We found this silly red light mask in the hiker box lmao, who brought this on trail 🤣

I wrote postcards, listened to music, and organized my pack.

The highlight of the day was my cousin Erin driving from San Diego to hang out with me for the afternoon! It felt amazing to be whisked away via car to Wynola, where we went to an adorable craft cider bar, and then to burgers across the street. Seeing a person from my “real” life on trail felt so good, and it was good to get a break from thru-hiker existence. I requested she bring a real t-shirt from her house so I could enjoy not being hiker trash in my sun hoodie for a few hours.

Erin drove me to my accommodations for the night, the Stagecoach RV Park in Julian, where I was staying in a four person tiny cabin for the night. I brought the girls I was staying with pizza, and said good goodbye to Erin, which felt really sad honestly, harder than it was when I first left for trail.

That night was full of preparations before trail. It feels like you can look over your stuff 1000 times and still feel like you’re missing something. I was so exhausted that at a certain point I just quit.

I’m excited to get back out there. Warner Springs is my next big destination. This leg of trail will be hot and have long stretches with no water. But I have a good group and much more confidence, and my body feels good after a solid rest. More exciting updates are to come!!!
